What were you thinking ??

Here is a Seiko I bought in 1972. It has Seiko's robust 7009A movement that was introduced in 1970. This calibre became the innards in most Seiko auto dive watches, basic self-winders, and top end pieces.

This movement cannot be hand wound but the winding rotar functions bi-directionally and, as can be seen is recognizable by the stem between the 3 and 4 position. Another interesting fact is that the stem has only two positions - out 1 to change the date and out 2 to set the time - it does not hack. To set the day, the stem is spring loaded and it is pressed into the case to "bump" to the next day:

Once wound this movement had a 47 hour reserve and is as accurate as any movement of it's era.
At 21,600 BPH it is on a par with other automatics and "ticks" at 6 times per second:

Even though 35 years old, the lume is still very good for a watch of that era:

The movement is highly regarded at 27mm in diam, although initially produced in 1970; it's roots can be seen in current Seiko auto movements:

I was thinking something a little more soft and lumpy

That is a beauty. Seiko has always been great bang for the buck

I got my brother a hand wind version in1973. He loved it and wore it all the time, I'll have to ask if he still has it.

That's a great watch larry. My Black Monster can't be hand wound either. Hopefully it'll still be around in 35 yrs
