I think John (Jonnyoxygen) uses this lens. I have a Tamron 200-500 that I've been using a lot as my prime 300mm lens is back in Japan being repaired.

When the new Nikon VR lenses come out next month I will try to persuade my wife to let me buy the 500. Wish me luck. :?

I think I'm going to wait a while for this one.  I have a 300mm 2.8VR and a X1.4 and X2 TC.  The results with the X1.4 TC are very good and the speed of focus is still quite fast.  Mind you the 300mm cost me 2.5K and that was a bargin.  At the time I bought it, they were going for 3K+

I've just had a thought.................I could put my short movie on general release and the royalties should pay for the 500mm VR lens.
