Damn, these things come up on you fast....another perfectly good week is behind us..

Here it is, middle of winter and my parents, who are 89 and 82 years old, had their heat pump go out on them..

Repairman says it will take a month or two to get the parts in, so I said....replace it and get it back on line this week.  Of course that will cost twice as much....

What a pain....their electrical is not up to code for the new unit as the house is over 50 years old...  Hopefully the electrician I called in will be able to pull in some power today.

In the mean time I've taken the heater out of my shop over there and given them some temporary heat in their family room...Don't want them to freeze while we wait..  Sure glad we live in the desert..

Do you suppose my own kids will take care of me like this 30 years from now...

Probably not..

You never know Larry, in thirty  years time their attitudes will have changed and maybe you will be OK.  I for instance don't have any kids so maybe if their attitudes change, they can come and look after me.

Follow up:

After paying extra (of course) to have a code compliant sub-panel installed, getting a crane and workers lined up, we have removed the old unit and successfully installed a new 5 ton rated heat pump on the old folks home..

Just in time.. The rain has come in and the temps have dropped 20 degrees during the day and near freezing overnight...

I left with a system that was taking in cool air from the house and returning 112 degree f. heated air.  They will be nice and toasty..

Now I'm going to kick back, catch up on some of my reading, and have a nice hot cup of coffee...  I earned it..

I'm glad it all worked out for everyone Larry

After I got married and moved out I started to realize how things have changed. What I mean is I never noticed how much my parents relied on me until that time. Maybe it was because  I was living there and did stuff just because it needed to be done.

I still do stuff for them anytime they ask and don't think twice about it. Plow the snow from the driveway, trim the bushes when they need it, fix stuff that I can. I even cut the grass until I bought my own house when I was 32. Now my father does it just because he can get done before me.

One upside to doing this is mom always has something good in the fridge to eat

I see some people that don't do anything to help out their parents and that really breaks my heart. After all, if it weren't for them we wouldn't be here
