Pam and I have booked another Cruise...This time to Alaska......brrrrrr
I lived up there for 10 years so it's not like I havn't seen it, but the towns on the Cruise side are land locked. The only way to get there is by boat or plane..
We're not going until June....and we have another one before that to Canada/Mexico....
Here's an older photo of Portage Glacier in Alaska, just down from Anchorage. You can catch a train here and it goes through the mountain to the other side of the glacier to the small town of Whittier and the Prince William Sound.....Great Halibut fishing and whale watching..

Yes, I was an Air Taffic Controller there during the '70s.
There was only 1 main highway connecting Anchorage to Fairbanks (halfway up the state). That highway Tee'd off and went down through Canada to the US. That included 2,000 miles of gravel road..
I kept my pilots license current back then and logged a couple of thousand hours going fishing, hunting, and sight seeing.
When we left in 1980, we drove the almost 4,000 miles from Anchorage, down the AlCan highway to my next job in Oakland, California.. That by itself was a two week adventure..
Heres a scan of an old photo from that trip..We stopped along the road for lunch..

Hmmmm...
I can see the respect I get over here..
That was the latest style in the 70's (I keep it to prove that I used to have hair)....
The photo isn't so good and you can't really see the Fu Manchu mustache..
This was in the summertime...in the winter I usually grew a full beard......... Hiking the mountains in the summer, flying all over the state for the best fishing spot, hunting moose and caribou, glacier and mountain skiing in the winter.. I was a real manly man
At least, that's the way I remember it.. I'm tired just thinking about it.....time for my morning nap..
