I didn't do this, but they are my pictures...

A Photomatix touch-up was done of my El Arco at Cabo shot and this is the before and after..

I do see some better definition in the background clouds.... and some detail in the rocks, although it almost looks like it has been oversharpened, expecially in the water...

Can't decide............. But it does look like I may invest in someting better..... Perhaps Photoshop or Photomatix..........

It certainly makes it jump out at you but I agree the water looks too sharp. I am never sure myself if I like HDR photos, they often look false.
I hope you don't mind but I put your photo through photoshop with just a high pass filter and a little unsharp mask. This is the result.

I like this picture a lot. I haven't played with HDR programs so I just did this in Nikon NX. I like late afternoon lighting so I warmed the light on the rocks and in the sky some, darkened the water and took a little blue out all over. I think shadows should be just that with a slight cool edge to them. HDR sometimes makes things look too unnatural to me.

Here's my effort, using Photomatrix pro and PS CS4. That first HDR image is far too strong and needs to be softened a little. There are countless adjustments you can make in Photomatrix to get the image to your liking. The bottom one has had Noise Ninja applied to it. Unfortunately as the original was a jpeg, jpeg artifacts are starting to appear due to the amount of processing.

Those are all interesting renditions..

It does show that much of the detail can be picked out beyond wlhat I can do with the RAW image and basic level adjustments..

I do like this shot and it will likely end up framed on the wall once I get it adjusted to my liking..

or maybe this one..
