I'm reading posts (elsewhere) about people buying watches (Rolex) and finding anomalies on the dial with the fonts or bits of fluff inside AFTER they have got them home.

For anyone who hasn't already got one or both these items, either are essential  to watch appraisal, especially if your are about to shell out several thousand dollars.

The left item is a watch repairers 2.5X magnifier that fits into the eye socket rather like a monocle. It's not bad for a cursory examination, but the other, a 10X jewellers loupe, is I believe is the preferred tool for examining minute detail. When using a loupe, it must be held close to the eye and the object brought up into focus.

to be honest i've come to the conclusion in life i get more enjoyment and happiness from being a lot less anal than when i was younger, unless we're talking glaring faults or issues which would effect function, the pleasure i can get far outweighs any personal issues i would wish to take up the baton for which IMHO always leaves a bad taste in the mouth even if thing get resolved

I've got to use a magnifier just to see the date anymore...

If I was still playing around with the insides of small timepieces, I would run out and get the binocular headpiece and some better desk lamps...
