seen a few ads with john travolta, piers brosnan in advertising watches...was wondering if these have much sway over what people buy?

Wouldve thought exclusivity wouldve been a consideration for a real watch fanatic/connoisseur - surely if everyone is buying them would it detract from the appeal?

just curious...

The popularity and subsequent scarcity of the Rolex Daytona is said to have happened after a picture of Fiat's Managing Director was shown on the cover of Time magazine.  Maybe if a certain celebrity is wearing a good looking watch, others may start to desire it and set off the avalanche of sales.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Some companies...TAG Heuer for example, are betting on it..

Their entire advertising campaign is around who wears TAGS, and how much you can be like them if you wear one..

If I wore one do you think it would be a selling point?

Rolex always had a good celebrity related advertising campaign, using celebrities from all the arts and achievers.  I can recall quite a few celebrities on the back cover of National Geographic wearing Rolex watches.  I'm still waiting for the call.

I find the celebrity thing pointless. Just because something looks good on one person doesn't mean it will look good on another person.

Well, that's because you can think for yourself, Vu - and you don't need a celebrity to influence your buying decisions!  You're the nightmare of every advertising executive!
