I was at an AD tonight and they had a SS Daytona in white dial in the case. I ended buying it for MSRP + 8% sales tax, so $10,719 USD out the door.

It's a beautiful piece and it's one that I've been wanting for awhile, but now that I own it...I am not so sure. For starters, I would have to sell my platinum YM and a few of my Nikon lenses to pay for it so cost is a big issue. My YM has platinum in it, so at least that can justify the price tag on it vs a SS chronograph. I don't see myself using the chronograph function much like how I use the bezel on the YM. I like the lume on the YM better. I think I may miss the date function.

Currently it's sitting in the box and I have 30 days to decide if I should keep it or return it.

Thoughts?

Thirty days to decide?  Vu, I'd sleep on it.  See how you feel over the next several days.  It would be nice if you could be wearing it during this time to help you decide, though...

Is this the same AD you mentioned a couple months ago who said they would have a Daytona for you before the end of the year, or is this a different deal?

Lisa said it best, DON'T do anything rash, give it a bit of time.  The same thing happened to me when I first got mine, then after a couple days everything kind of calmed down.  Don't do something hasty now you will regret later.

I agree - I'd wait a week. Give it a chance, and see how you feel.

Pah, watches are like women, strap it on and see if you enjoy it.  If not, return to sender.       I can only get away with those kind of statements here.

Vu, only you can decide if the Daytona is what you really want. If it is then selling off other belongings, though painful, will be well worth it. Does your new watch make you happy???

After discussing the issue with my wife last night and sleeping on it, I have decided to return the SS Daytona. The issue has been weighing heavy on me and I didn't get a good night sleep. My wife made the comment that I have never looked so miserable after a purchase and I do feel this heavy weight on my shoulders.

It was an impulse buy and I believe I got caught up in the chase. It reminds me when I bought the LV when it was hard to get. I ended up selling it after a year deciding it wasn't what I really wanted.

At least I can say that I have owned a SS Daytona and it just wasn't the one for me.

Just the same, Vu - would you even consider delaying the return until after the weekend?  Just to be absolutely sure?

To me, these excerpts above from your post convince me you made the right decision.  There are at least two types of Daytona buyers.  Those that truly love the watch and those that love the clamor it generates among WIS types of the Rolex variety.  I too discovered I was in the later grouping.  Got a call that I had been selected to have the "honor" of buying a SS Daytona at retail.  I bought it.  I wasn't miserable, but I wasn't excited either.  After six months I got the bug for a new watch (18kt Bluesy Sub) and just couldn't resist flipping the Daytona to lessen the pain a bit.  I have never regretted it.  This isn't to say those that love it shouldn't be excited.  Personally, I like the look of the TT models better and ironically they are cheaper ( in the GM) even though they have gold content and more interesting dials -- especially that new blue dial about to hit the stores.

The SS Daytona is still sitting in the box at home as I continue to ponder its fate. So today I left my YM at home and wore my Tissot PRS200, which is also a chronograph, with the plan to see what it would be like to wear a chronograph again. I really haven't worn the Tissot since I bought my first Rolex about 3 years ago. Why is that? Is it because it's not a Rolex or I just got tired of a chronograph?

I have discovered that I miss rotating the bezel. I like the feel and sound of the clicking as I time things at work. Using the pushers just didn't have that sense of gratification. I actually missed not wearing my YM today. And even though I have thought about getting the GMT-C, the GMT function is not one that I would really use.

So being a one watch guy, I have come to the conclusion that if I am going to wear "one" watch, it has to be completely functional and practical to me. Talk about a realization...

Me thinks you know the answer.  Don't fret and go with your gut on this one.

I think you're right, Joe.  Even so, I'd let the weekend pass to ponder - nothing to lose.

Vu, you do have 29 days left to think about your choices. But you do sound like you have made up your mind so strap that YM back on and take the Daytona back. No harm, no foul.....
