So in theory a Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM would cover it almost all, wouldn't it?

One tough (expensive) go anywhere do anything lens..

But that price...

Well... in theory.  But there are trade-offs..

For example, at that 300mm length, your f-stop is 5.6, which is great in bright sunlight, but lacks in anything but the best light, and you're too far away for a flash to fill.

And, as said, 28mm on a "crop" camera is pretty close to a standard 50mm lens of old, so it really isn't a wide-angle either..
