Yo Braindead, You Turned Your Son Into a Human Punching Bag!

Nicole Richie named her newborn son "Sparrow."  We all know how "kind" kids can be.  Just wait until the tyke goes to school, if he's got any other defects he will be beaten to death with an entire gamut of blunt instruments.  Need I say more?

Sparrow?! That poor boy.

I think her brain has taken flight...

Many celebrity parents are idiots. Hopefully she hires a decent caregiver to offer the baby a stable loving environment.

Well, the second word in the title says it all, Faith.  Unfortunately the media has not only created some rather poor examples of humankind, it's also given them licence to do whatever they damned well please.
Lisa

I agree it's pretty dorky to do that to a kid, but then I figure that child is going to grow up in that celebrity culture, with other celeb's kids with weird names, and nobody will think a thing of it.

Now that they're all grown up, wonder if Dweezil and Moon Unit would agree?

Considering the source I'm surprised she has any brain cells left.....

Thankfully I had to do a google search to see who this woman? was. Then it all made sense
Jimbits76

Thank goodness I didn't call William my original choice.

Then again, he'd hadrly be picked on with a name like Gojira Kong Lewis.

(Note to geeks...notice the true spelling of Godzilla)

Seriously naming a child seemed like one of the hardest things we've had to do.

We were so sure we were having a girl that we had a number of girl's names picked.

We had one boy's name "Thomas" and that was it. We weren't sure on it but we couldn't agree on any other names.

Not only that, we couldn't agree with anybody else on the names. Whenever we mentioned one to family etc they turned up their nose and moaned and offered some name that would make me cringe.

During the "labour from hell" tm, we joked about what we would do if we had a little boy as we didn't have a name for him.

Lo and behold, at almost 1pm, Thusday 22nd November 2007, out popped the little boy.

The midwife left us alone for a few moments and at that point I said to Claire "He's not a Thomas, he's more a William"

Claire didn't like it.

One by one the midwives came in to see him to get a look at his red quiffed hair do.

We didn't say anything but each one asked what we'd name him. We'd answer with a simple "we can't make up our mind yet!"

I swear that every single midwife (there were five who come to look at him) said "He's a William" or "He's a proper little William!"

Claire and I laughed out loud (looking back the women probably had some sort of sweepsatke going with another department).

From 1pm Thursady until 9am Monday he remained Baby Lewis (none of the family really liked the name William and Claire still hadn't made up her mind) however I was given permission to go to the registry office and register him as William Lawrence Daniel....I was tempted to register him as Galacticus He Man but I think I would have had to move into the shed!!!!!

Lord only knows what we'd call our next.

First rule of baby naming:  Don't listen to what family or friends have to say.  Baby ain't theirs.

I don't know any more rules of baby naming.  Just that one.

There should be a rule where the kid can choose when they are older.
Rockrolex

We were given to odd names or odd spellings with our kids.  When Arleen was pregnant the first time, we saw a name on a child' drawing -it was Adi.  After learning it was a girl and then learning how to pronounce it (short A, accent on the di), we fell in love with it.  Fortunately our first was a girl because we didn't really have a boy's name picked out.

With our second, Arleen liked the English spelling of Leigh.  So that's our son's name.  He's had to go through life living the Johnny Cash song.

He and his wife refused to tell anyone what their child's name would be.  Although they did let slip late in the pregnancy that the initials were APK.  So of course the guessing games started.  No one got it.  When our granddaughter was born, we were introduced to Alyssa Paisley Kessler.  The Alyssa is an amalgam of several grandmothers names and the Paisley is because they both love Brad Paisley.

I think it's the perfect name for this little beauty.

Me, too, Ed and Jim.  We rather like Brad Paisley, too!

It's not THAT bad.
I always said that if I have a son I will name him just the letter "Y".

What's your name?
Y.
Seriously... what is your name dude?
Y.
etc.

You could always name him "Who" and hope he turns out to be a baseball player.

Ed, she's adorable!

Max was supposed to be named Jacob. It was one name that hubby and I could agree on. I made the mistake of telling my mother, who for various reasons (yes, I had to listen to ALL of them) hated the name. It ruined the name for us!

So, take my advice and don't share your baby name choices on a whim!

On the bright side, I like the name Maximilian even better. We decided about 10 minutes before he made his appearance.

Did you know Phoebe would have been a Max had she been a boy?  Possibly Maxfield, after the artist Maxfield Parrish.  We still love that name.
BigBird

Pah, I named the girls after strippers.  Now hand me a beer and I will go away and watch my collection of Girls-Gone-Wild VHS tapes.
Carolina

I've never heard that one - I love it!! I always like hearing where the name Max comes from, other than the traditional "Maxwell". I'm a fan of interesting, or slightly offbeat names - but not weird ones (um, Sparrow).

Despite my sad story, Maximilian was actually my #1 pick for a boy, but hubby didn't care for it at first. When he suggested it while I labored, I jumped at the chance.

Jim, William is a great name for a boy and BTW our son Benjamin was born on November21, 1984. As a matter of fact in November we have three birthdays in five days. My wife, Pam, her father and then Ben. When Ben was younger we used to get together and celebrate all three at once. I call it hell week but with love!!!

Absolutely!!! Beautiful child, beautiful name!!!

Wendy's biggest concern was that everyone would add the "ey" sound to whatever name we chose. He father calls her brother Marky, I was called Billy, you get the idea.
I wanted to name my boy Christopher William but Wendrfull never loved the name. She knew I'd just call him CW.
She found the name Ethan and decided she liked it. I trusted her and didn't dislike it so I said OK. You should have seen the reactions. I got to the point of telling someone that I didn't care if they liked the name or not, they'd like my boy just fine no-matter what we named him.

I love the name of her daughter, Harlow Winter Kate. I think that it is beautiful <3 And I think that Sparrow is better than a lot of other celebrity child names, like Lourdes, Coco, Olive, Beckett, Fifi, Talullah, Reinbeau, Sistine... there are so many terrible names.

Grr - don't you just love when people do that??
BTW, Ethan was one of my picks that hubby and I couldn't agree on! It's a name with a lot of character.

Let me throw this question out:  Do most of you like your own names?
Carolina

Growing up I hated it, because it was different and no one could spell/pronounce it correctly. It stinks when you're 7 and all the personalized trinkets have every name but yours! As I got older, I grew to like it because it's a less than common name. People still can't spell/pronounce it properly, but I'm quite used to it by now.

Although lately, I have seen many little toddlers named Caroline!
East Bay Rider

Sure. It's ok.
I really don't think the name itself is that important (within reason). I think it's most important how people say it. A cool nickname is always a plus.

I would bet you a dollar I'd be using my backup name Daisy for a fourth... because my father in law is a big railroad nut and there is a diner car china pattern called "Violets and Daisies."

"Harlow" sounds nice, but its also the name of one of the roughest towns in Essex, and thats saying something.

I kept telling people that Finn was going to be called either Optimus, Chemistry set (works for boys and girls) or Chainsaw before he was born.

You should have called him Harlow, then he could have been a policeman.  When people asked him his name, he could have replied.....
