With all the "countroversy" on other places...Well, as many of you know the bickering I'm talking about on other places, I found this little story on another watch site I frequent.
Yeah, I get around.....never said I was a one forum guy. Man's gotta breath you know!!!! Thought you ladies would enjoy this and it is a chuckle for the guys as well.
Anyway, the story.
It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping aswhen they were younger. When you notice this, try to show some understanding...PLEASE!!
My name is Barry, and let me relate how I handled the situation with my
wife Ivy.
When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Ivy to get a
full time job along with her part-time job, both for extra income and
for the health benefits that we needed.
Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show
her age. I usually get home from the golf course about the same time she
gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost
always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts
dinner. I don't yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and
just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch
in the Men's Grill at the country club, so eating out again at night is
not reasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooking when I hit that door.
She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating, but now it's
not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner.
I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each
evening that the dishes won't clean themselves. I know she really
appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done
before she goes to bed.
Another symptom of aging is complaining. For example, she will say that
it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her
lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile
and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even
three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her
that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you
know what I mean).
I like to think that this is one of my strong points. When doing
simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to
take a break when she was only half finished mowing the yard. I try not
to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice , big,
cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while.
And while she is getting herself one, she might as well get one for me,
too --- or just bring me a cold beer in a frosted mug.
I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Ivy, and
I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Nobody
knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older, but,
guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your
aging wife because of this letter, I will consider that writing it was
well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.
Signed, Barry
EDITOR'S NOTE:
Barry died tragically on March 1st of a perforated rectum. The police
report says he was found with a Calloway extra long 50-inch Big Bertha
Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip
showing and with a sledge hammer lying nearby. His wife Ivy was
arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 15
minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defense that Barry
somehow, without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club!

Hmm...
Barry doesn't "get it."
Mik, I remember going to a job interview in the mid 1980s - after getting my journalism degree. The older guy who headed the public relations and marketing division interviewed me. The first thing he asked when I sat down was, "Let me see your ankles. I only hire pretty girls with slim ankles."
I didn't get the job!
Another time.... I had a Mont Blanc pen that I used at work. It was a gift from a coworker at my previous job. A male co-worker sidled up and said, "How'd you get that pen? Lying on your back, right?" This was the same guy who went to strip bars with several of the other guys during their lunch break and I'd get to hear them talking about the women the rest of the afternoon...
Another time....
The director of the state agency where I worked was conducting an "exit interview" as I was resigning to take another job. I was leaving on good terms, with great reviews, and he requested the interview. All he wanted to know was, "why are you taking another job when you should be slowing down to have some babies?" I mean, he was genuinely concerned about this and really thought he was doing me a favor of some kind to say this.
Oh, I could go on. But it wouldn't help anyone "get it" if they don't already.

The point being, I suppose, was that these things happened in the 1980s and 1990s and would be considered sexual harrassment today. They were pretty clearly things that would make a woman feel uncomfortable at her job. I like to think that we've come a long way in the workplace and in general day-to-day society....
...and then I see some astonishing examples of behavior that have me wondering whether much has really changed at all.... I suppose not, in some places.

I can sum up a lot of us guys in one word, "jerks"....
Or we think with our "decks".....

Ironically, MY wife thinks we should do away with sexual harassment laws!

Oh Mik. That's hilarious. I haven't seen that joke for about a year and I laughed just as much this time as I did the first time I read it. It still cracks me up!

I'm sorry, Mik - it's a great joke!
I think I'm just crabby today. Not your fault at all. I'm just reacting more to Lisa's stories, and um, some other issues.

No worries. Have those days myself, just didn't want have something misread.

Mik, it's really a very funny story - I enjoyed seeing it again. It just got me to thinking I'd like to expound a little on some things that have been on my mind of late... if I could.

Lisa, we've got a really nice set of golf clubs around here somewhere. Do you think Chris would mind if we borrowed them??

I missed the threads causing controversy elsewhere, but it sounds like it went pretty crazy.

Same here... Seems like I always know which threads NOT to read... It's like a 6th sense...

I think one of the threads is still there.... locked, though.

Yep, I saw that one, but I thought they never deleted threads, because there was nothing to hide. There is definitely dissent throughout there now.
Thankfully, we have Uncle AJ's Donut shop

Some of the things that happen down here in the workplace would absolutely floor you! Even though I work for a US company that has a plant here in Mexico, there is still a subserviant attitude that abounds with the more senior Mexican managers.
I could go on, but I it would only stir the pot (not my intention). Hard to believe some of the things I have heard and seen, and last time I checked it was 2009 down here also.
Either way, this seems to be a more tranquil place to hang out.

I know what you mean, Martin - our family lived in San Antonio for a few years and there was a definite difference in attitudes. And then there are those Latino TV networks.... my goodness!

Probably because the defendant had a lousy lawyer.
