We're Packing For A Trip To Maui...

Although we were there on an Island Cruise and to watch the Whales (Pics are in the Wildlife Board) in December.....it's time to go back and just relax after a hectic couple of months here..  We'll leave on June first for a couple of weeks...........

I hope to make this more of a photo visit than a kick-back in the sand type of visit we usually do.

Last year I just took some snaps of our favorite Island:

It looks great Larry, I wish I could come too but I don't want to spoil your holiday.

Don't forget to take some lighthouse pictures.

It looks like my kind of vacation spot. You can't get much better for photo opportunities than Maui. Looking forward to seeing what you come back with.

I haven't been able to take any shots the past few weeks with other commitments..

But, I'm combing through the equipment to find the right, but light, gear to take..

I'm thinking one body and a couple of lenses..

.  Canon 5D... It's a full frame.

.  17-40mm lens

.  70-200mm lens

.  lightweight Tripod

.  Mono-pod

.  1.4x converter

.  CPL filter

.  flash for some fill in the jungle.

.  4 gig and a couple of 2 gig cards

and the back-pack and odds and ends..

Am I forgetting anything important..??

I think there are a few of us who would like to get on that list.

The only things I can think of are a battery charger and cable shutter release if you use them. Also, maybe something to keep everything dry in case of a shower/rain storm.  If it were me I'd need a case of 16 Gb cards but I'm a little trigger happy.

batteries...you betcha'.. I've got 3 altogether and the charger.......

I've been thinking of taking an extra card or two..... the 5D does use them up at a faster clip than the 30D..

With 250 shots available on the 4 gig, and another 250 with the other pair of 2's, I still wonder.......will I take more than 500 photos.........

The answer might be a resounding YES...especially if I do much bracketing........

........I know I have an 8 gig someplace..........I have 5 cameras using CF cards...  I better check again.............

Maybe you should take a packhorse as well!!

I usually carry the cameras and lenses..

The other stuff has to fit in the bags............

Maybe I don't need so many pairs of underwear..........

I decided on this kit..

Canon 5D w/only the 70-200 and a 17-40 zooms.  It leaves a bit of a gap, but not enough to worry about..

I was only going to take the monopod, but my hiking tripod is a carbon-fibre/magnesium head model and only 3 1/2 pounds..

I found the 8 gig card..it was in an older 300D I use for watch photography, (I really don't need that much for watches) so it's an 8 gig and a 4 gig card going.

uncle aj

I think Pam will be able to carry that bundle quite easily.  You're a very thoughtful man Larry.
