Warranty

Has anybody ever read the warranty booklet that comes with a Rolex, or any other watch for that matter?

If not; what do you expect from a warranty on a timepiece like that?

When I bought my Cartier Santos, it came with a lifetime guarantee. Unfortunately they don't now but I think 2 years is good enough.

I was looking at mine only yesterday. It's 24 months. Guarantees "it's dependable functioning" for two years from the date of purchase.

Excludes, loss, mistreatment, normal wear and tear. The latter being a big grey area I think.

Omega warranty is 3 years with the new movement watches.

I would have expected a 'life time' guarantee like Cartier as Adrian states. Mind you it depends on who's life time

OK, makes sense, but what if the regular maintenance is due?
Should you pay for that?
And what if you have your watch 2 weeks, and you drop it on tile floor, do you expect to pay for the repair or should this be under warranty?
When you scratch the sh*t out of your bracelet, by hitting a brick wall, should Rolex refinish it at no cost?
What if the crown brakes off? Or the rotor brakes due to impact?
That type of stuff.....

I think it should be for manufacturing faults only. Breakages etc. should be covered by insurance.

Right.......

The only regular maintenance with the 24 month period of garantie is maybe an adjustment for gain/loss. Should be free I think.

The tile floor accident is amended to:

The watch is malfunctioning.... I don't know why.

Scratching the bracelet?

The AD might do it for nix.....if you turn on the charm......OR
Fixing scratches DYI...it's easy if you have the right tools.

Damage to crown or rotor?

Feign ignorance......just look helpless.....again it depends on your RSC and you AD.

None of these things will happen, so why worry?

Never say never!
According to the watchmaker at my AD, these things happen all the time! And most customers are pissed off when they hear some of these things aren't under warranty! That's why I was wondering what you guys think....
I should've known you were too smart!

Accidents only happen to the careless.

We are all true watch lovers.....so think positive.

My humble opinion is that if the rotor snaps or the crown breaks off, or if it falls to the ground and breaks due to the bracelet breaking..  these things need to be looked at by the AD/RSC to ensure the incident was caused by a "manufacturing defect" or not..

As to the folks that seem to think every scratch, nick, or mis-handling on their part requires money out of somebody elses pocket, are generally the squeaky wheels we hear so much about..

Many people today just don't take responsibility for their own actions..

Of course as an AD, you have to weigh what you do or don't do for a good customer into account..  Even knowing the customer is spinning a tall yarn, losing one good customer needlesly can cause a domino effect with their circle of friends.... and doing a good turn may be cost effective in the long run..
