The Fat LadyThe first GMT II, the reference 16760. Making it's debut circa 1983 the 16760, dubbed the "Fatlady" by a noted German collector, because of it's thick case was the first GMT to feature the "jump hour" feature.
Rolex negated a true quick-set date feature in favor of what has become known as a "semi-quickset" to allow the 12 and 24 hr. hands to decouple in order to advance or retard the 12 hr. hand allowing the 16760 to be the first GMT to read the local timezone off the dial.
Using the 3085 movement the 16760 was only in production till about 1988 when it was replaced by the slimmer reference 16710.
Curiously never a big seller as it had to compete with the less expensive reference 16750, the 16760 has gained a bit of notice with the vintage community. A rather hard reference to find, it only left the mothership wearing a RED/BLACK insert-though other inserts sized for the 16710 will certainly fit.
Some feel it wears almost like an SD.
Note the larger crown guards as compared to the 16710.

This might be a dumb question but before the 12 and 24 hr hands were independentaly adjustable, how could you advance the time say 3hrs on the 24 hr hand and keep the 12 hr hand alone for local time?

Yeah, on early examples with synced hands the bexel had to be turned for a second TZ.
