Sub click spring..

Without knowing the actual name for it, I have noticed lately more and more Sub owners who have lost the bezel spring wire that "clicks" as the bezel rotates, and also keeps the bezel from rotating in both directions.

I'm a pretty good amature machinist with a good selection of stainless wire.

Is this spring actually made of spring steel, or is it just regular hard steel.

Would a machinist be able to successfully make a new spring wire, or is it something "specially treated" to withstand the constant meshing with the bezel teeth. My view would be that a new handmade stainless wire would be more durable, and probably last longer than the relatively soft bezel teeth.

Further, I've told people who have lost theirs that it will not harm their watch in any way without it, it just will not function as engineered. Am I wrong ???

My concern would be if the material you substitute was harder than the original, excessive wear would take place on the bezel. I think this is a question for a watchmaker.

Well the bezel won't click if there ain't no click spring there Tools.

Although I no little about this, I would venture to say that it would be spring steel rather than hardened steel.

I'm not game to remove the bezel on mine!

I dont know. But I lost the spring on my Sub ( Actually Rusi banker did) and now my watch's bezel is bi-directional.

It doesnt bother me too much and I'll have it rectified when I give it for service.

I've had mine out and had to bend it a bit in order to get the bezel to work properly. I don't see why a machinist couldn't fab one.
