Some recent critters

Sometimes the big guys aren't very cooperative so I take what I can get. I actually enjoy catching the odd dragonfly.

Eastern Fence Lizard

Fowlers Toad

Great pictures Mike.  I have a book on dragonflies somewhere in the house and should be able to identify them as long as they occur in Europe.  I think the last one is a clubtail but I need to find the book first.

Well I found my book but I'm sorry I could not pin them down, no pun intended.
The first looks like some kind of darter, the nearest I could come up with is common darter.
The second is puzzling, I could not find a match in my book, the nearest I could find was blue dasher.
The last one looks like a hooktail.
Sorry I can't be more helpful but birds are my area of expertise.

Thanks Adrian! I was wondering about the ID on these guys. I'll need to get a book. I'll check Amazon. They are fun to photograph but I'm still trying to get one in flight. Thanks again for the help.

Yes it would be nice to get some flight shots,  I must admit, I've tried and failed.  There's a guy who is visiting Saudi next week who I'm taking out to show him some birds.  He has a website with quite a few dragonfly flight shots, here's the link. Steven Burch's Site

A nice site he has there. It's definitely tough to catch them when they are darting around but he has a couple of really nice shots of them in flight. They tend to hover in the same place for a couple of seconds but they are still too fast for me. I'm heading out to an area tomorrow that should have some so I'll give it another try.
