Archive for Uncle AJ's Rolex, Wrist Watch & Nature Forum A place to chill out and have some fun a forum about nothing yet also about everything. An alternative wrist watch and nature forum.
Like Frans and his blissfuly nostalgic moments, last night for about 90 minutes I stopped being Jim and was back to being Jamie, the goofy teenage idiot who inhabited this body before the bad things in life were thrown at him.
What am I talking about? On the way home from work last night, I picked up a DVD from the supermarket. That dvd was called 'Drag Me To Hell'.
Probably one of the worst titles of all time but the reviews and feedback had been brilliant and it was made by Sam Raimi, one of my favourite filmmakers of all time.
We put William to bed and at 8pm, we switched out the lights, huddled under a duvet together and switched on the TV.
I won't bore you with the specifics (as you know I can) but this crazy, batnuts, mental film frightened the life out of me and also made me laugh like a giddy child. It was a gross out, nerve shredding funhouse. It isn't going to be to everybody's taste but I loved it with my whole heart.
We've had some stuff going on personally this last couple of months and that has been weighing heavily on me and has affected both my "real" persona and my marriage.
Last night for ninety minutes I completely forgot it all and revelled in the dumb cheap tricks of a film like a teenager scoffing pizza, ice cream and coca cola. I was home, back in the old family house, before my parents split, when my brother and sister were still a big part of my life and when I'd cuddle up against my late, trusty golden retriever as I ate far too much sugar whilst watching dumb flicks like 'Surf Nazis Must Die' and 'Class of Nuke Em High' late into the night
I get what Frans is talking about but last night I felt for the first time that I truly knew what it is to keep the child inside alive.
My life needs more fun!
Jim
PS I now have a new film jump moment benchmark...last night I almost cleared two feet between my backside and the couch!!!!!

You'll have to add it to your Halloween movies Jim.

Took me a while to figure out which little boy inside you were waxing on about. Only you would turn down the heat so you could play a little bit of blanket pool with the wife.

I think it is a Marmite film Adrian...love it or hate it.
Claire thought it was okay but over the top and silly.
I was running around in a circle shouting woohoo.
If that aint a metaphor for my marriage I don't know what is!

I'm a more conventional film type of person, although at one time I joined our local Little Theatre. This was before departing for Saudi. They used to show some of the films that never really made the cinemas as they weren't commercial enough. One film that always stayed in my mind was Death in Venice. Exceptionally, beautifully filmed with great background music. The opening scene was a misty dock and a boat gradually comes out of the mist to moor at the dock.
Here's a trailer clip which doesn't show the mist as well as the film did.
Adrian, I do enjoy KT's song a lot, where is she from???
She was born in St. Andrews Scotland, home of one of the oldest universities in the world and the famous golf course.

Adrian
This was where I first really took notice..
I like the way she does a quick sample at the beginning of her songs and then uses it as a background beat. Most videos you see of her she just has a drummer accompanying her. Top class artist in my book.
Lion
Adrian, she is very talented and has an excellent voice.
Jim, she does a very nice version of Dylan's song. I've been listening to Dylan since the middle 60s. It's been said that when he met the Beatles, he was the one who turned them unto pot!!!
Carolina
Jim, good for you!
We all should take notes (esp. me!) on doing this every now and again.
A prime example of why you are one of my favorites!
