PloversI was lucky on Friday as my friend spotted this Caspian plover and called me over. They are becoming endangered and to get an opportunity to see one was great but to also be able to get a photograph was better.
Not endangered but still a good looking bird, the Kentish plovers were out with their young in numbers.

Very nice job Adrian. It's always a good feeling to get a first. Unfortunately, it's pouring rain here so no outing today. Are these with the 500mm? Are you using a TC with it?

Yes these are with the Sigma 500mm f4.5, without Tc on a D3 body. 
My exfriend took this picture on the day.

The lens is not as big as I thought. How is it hand-held?

I think you could use it hand held for short periods and you're right, he is jealous.

Great shots...
I could see a difference in the warmth of the shots that you were using a different set-up than in the past..
That Sigma has a "difference" about it, but it might also be the D3 in combination..
I think crisp, clear...a bit more DOF.....  Can't quite put my finger on it, but it looks good..
(I've seen the same difference in my own photos from using a 30D or a 5D...They are definitely "different"...not saying better or worse, just different)
