Playing Games

Do you like playing games inside such as board games and outside as well???

For outside I enjoy playing Lawn Jarts or Frisbie. And indoors I enjoy the game of Risk(the original version), Monopoly, Chess and Backgammon. So tell us what kinds of games do you enjoy!!!

I think Joe (Bigbird) will have a few games he likes!

Scrabble. I have a friend that's really really good at it. I like the game, but I'm really bad at it. My friend calls me "3 letter Bob". I frustrate him with my monosylabic drivel.
Eschew verbosity I say.

Mad Gab is a blast

I LOVE pictionary, and playing cards. Problem is you have to be with 4 to do this, and that almost never happens...

Scrabble, but I can never find anyone who wants to play the game with me, not even Al. My sister and I used to play weekly, but now she lives in a different city.

Now I play online games every day.

My life ambition is to complete The Times crossword...I've progressed past the express and the mail and now I'm about the level of The Telegraph,  Independant or Guardian. The Times is like Everest or K2 to me, almost insurmountable!

I play a bit of backgammon online (for fun not money) and I'm immeresed in the number theory and probability factors of it's strategy.

I play chess badly...I buy and read lots of books on chess as it fascinates me but none of it seems to sink in. I wish I was a chess great, I'm just a beginner really.

Play a bit of cards for fun, we do play a good card/board game called Sequence with friends and family now and again...it's great fun and a clever game, look it up.

Try this one for size Jim.  I was the only one to crack it in a Telegraph Crossword in 1984.

"Beethoven's fifth but not Mahler's third."  (8)

Hmm....my first thought is  "symphony" but if you were the only one to get it,  it must be a different answer. Can't wait!
Jimbits76

No idea Adrian...I was thinking Allegro, Emporer etc but I know little of Mahler...espesh his 3rd.

Must be more cryptic!

J

We could always have a go at a joint effort.

The answer is "aspirate."  Beethoven's fifth letter is 'h' and pronounced.  Mahler's third letter is 'h' and its not pronounced.  When you pronounce an 'h' you are said to aspirate.
Jimbits76

I may sound as though I'm talking rubbish but I noticed the fifth and third were "h"...that said I would have never ever got the answer.

As for the link to the times one above...I have yet to get a single answer!

I went that way at first but George kept bugging me.  I possibly have the advantage of age and remember the old newsreels when the autopilot was invented "and now the automatic pilot, nicknamed George, takes over the controls."  Said in an early BBC accent.  I remember stevedore from the docker's strikes.  Before your time young man.

Jim,

Here's a link to Bahrain's Gulf Daily News cryptic crossword.  It's compiled in the UK and is usually not too hard, although the Thursday one can be very tricky.

GDN Crossword

I won't be doing this today as I'll be busy getting stuff ready fro Wednesday night to Friday night in Bahrain.
Jimbits76

Cheers Adrian, I'll have a look at lunchtime!
