Forum upgrade

A new version of the forum is available for implementation.  As yet I have only done a test version that can be viewed at this link.

Upgrade

Check this out and let me know any opinions you may have about upgrading or should I leave things alone.

Note.

The colour theme/style is optional as there are lots to choose from.

I don't really feel there is a need for change.... but whatever you prefer Uncle, it's your forum!

Seems a little easier to navigate...

The colors need work, but it looks good...  

Like most things in technology today, if you don't keep up, then you may be left well behind...

With the upgrade there are lots of extras in the back ground.  The admin panel has a few more whistles and bells.  As far as cost goes, I don't think there is any extra.  The scheme I chose is not the default, I just used it as an example of what was available.  There was a Christmas theme which would be great for that time of year.  I'll sleep on whether to change or not as I'm sure to mess something up and maybe lose some old posts or something.  I think it's for the more technically minded than me.  Maybe I'll drop Valentino a line as he's the hacker.

sounds like a win /win  upgrade just time and effort which is precious too! , the xmas theme seems cool and something to "really " look forward too. just my 2p [2cents :-) ]

I've just activated the Christmas theme, it look OK.  From what I gather, you get a choice of 5 themes which you can activate from your control panel.  Check the link again.

If you leave the Christmas theme on I will personally fly over there and slap you myself!

I've changed the theme again, it's easier on the eyes now.

Very funny, I almost wet myself.  There's a post on here about me coming home so just shows you never read them.

Yes, I think I broke something.  

The forum tech guys are looking into it at this moment.

if you are in the UK your ISP probably gives you a free webspace where you could get (me) to install your own free forum but own the database. You could do quite a bit with the site and forum I reckon as there is a huge interest base in watches

Might be worth thinking about, however this site is free, I only pay for the adverts to be removed.  The database here is backed up daily.

I thought you couldnt access the Database though - so what if the forum really grew and you wanted to move? Anyway it would mean I'd never stop getting phone calls or emails askin about it so yeah keep it here ;)

I can't access the database but the guys who look after the forums back them up daily.  There was a big hack recently (probably your mates) and the forums were re-installed from the back up with no data loss.

Everything seems to be working again on the upgrade site.  I've installed 5 themes which you should be able to use via the control panel.  Please don't post comments on the new forum as they will be over ridden when a further upgrade takes place.

I'm seriously thinking about the upgrade but it could put us off line for 48 hours so if I do upgrade, it will probably be over a weekend.

Possibly next Saturday / Sunday.  Even if I don't do until I get back to Saudi I'll use the same weekend days.

I travel back on the 28th and have another 4.5 years to retirement.  Unless they decide otherwise.
