Apple Macbook Air

Apple have announced what they claim to be the world's thinest computer.

Link to specifications

On the surface it may sound great but to make it so thin, there's no optical drive or conventional hard drive.  A solid state hard drive is available but the price of the computer doubles if this is fitted.  I'm also wary of thin screens as they tend to bend easily and break.

It looks good at first but I'll reserve my opinion until it's been in use for a while.

I watched Steve Jobs' keynote speech the other night. The air is pretty impressive. It has a 13.5" LED screen and full size back lit keyboard. I'd be afraid of breaking it if I dropped because it's so small.  Like you said unc, it's pricey with the add-ons also. It starts at $1799 I believe

Heck, I'm afraid of breaking my iPod nano.

which wins cool over value for money within the mac range is the question most would ask i guess , the optional USB optical drive adds £65 i'm ok with that as i dont require the use of one often but still the VFM question over the cool factor IMHO and personally from a use point of  view

On the way back from the airport, we stopped of at the Trafford Centre, which is a large shopping mall.  I had a look in the Apple store and walked out with a MacBook.  I've just set it up and I'm using it right now.  First impressions are good as this is my first Mac.

Well it's a complete new experience for me but so far it's been enjoyable.  I haven't done anything too taxing as yet so time will tell.  In the next week I'm going to install a parallel operating system for Windows as I have a few programmes that need it to run.  That's when things will get interesting.
