New Years Resolution 09 - Running out of time!

Christmas 08...my cousin recieved a copy of Guitar Hero World tour for the Wii. Old bitsy tied his Aunt's scarf around his head and for a few moments became a strutting, preening, pouting rock god.

On the way home, the inevitable "I might buy that tomorrow" was addressed to the long suffering Claire.

By the next morning Old Bitsmini decided that £70 on a toy was a dumb idea but he could use the 70 nicker towards a real geetar and teach himself how to play.

By the afternoon, Howling Bits had decided he could almost play an instrument and the now £100 could be spent more wisely on additional Harmonica learning resources.

Before new year arrived, a lovely big box of books turned up from a major online company and Honkin' Bitsy made the resolution that this would be the year he truly became more proficient on his blues harmonica.

To get into the swing (and because the new books required a few different keys) a couple of custom built Hohner Marine band deluxe harps were picked up for about another £150.

Woohoo, Bitsy was ready to blow on his wood, suck on his organ and mouth his tool.

It's now November 09 and I recently rediscoved the "new" books in an old drawer.

I've got two months of work to put in...then again, I wouldn't mind learning guitar!

Strumming or blowing, this is your choice.

Stick to what you know best..............blowing hot air.

Good luck with that.

My only resolution was to try to make it to to the New Years Day 2010 without any major setbacks ('setbacks' was defined very loosely, of course).

I'm still on track.

Jim, next Bitsy is going to want to learn how to play piano and you are going to be SOL.....

Interestingly William has really taken an interest in my niece's electric piano. Everytime we visit my brother he runs out to the dining room, pulls out the stool and sits and "plays" the piano.

I can't be affording posh piano's or keyboards or lessons for a two year old but this Christmas we might buy him a cheapo kiddie's keyboard.

Another Elton John in the making.

He's got the same colour hair as Elt (SIR ELTON!)

I'd be happy if he made a tenth of his fortune to be honest.

I'd like him to play a musical instrument but I bet all parents say that!

Jim, whether it's drums or a piano for William I bet you and Claire will want ear plugs for X-mas!!!

Tremolo?
Chromatic?
Diatonic?
Octave?

Hering?
Hohner?
Huang?

Jimbits76

Alright flash pants!!!!! What did you swallow the harp handbook?

I 'play' diatonic in "cross", both acoustic in an attemp to whoop and holla like Sonny Terry and Rice (Sonny Boy II) and electric through my trusty green bullet and Hog 20.

I play custom Hohner harps, mostly either personalised custom Hohner Blues harps with a beeswax sealed comb and drilled and screwed plates or customised Blues and Marine Band deluxe harps that have been regapped and tuned by an English harmonica customiser.

The MB Deluxe are awesome harmonicas, out of the box they are tight and responsive but when the customiser does his stuff and the bends on the lower scale draws are easy to get a hold off and fiddle around with. Overblows really aint my thing but there is the scope there to ease into overblow etc.

Hohner have just bought out a new MB with a laminated bamboo comb...the MB crossover...most pro's are saying they are as good as a customised $200 harp out of the box...they are £55 here which is a wad of cash to spend on a blues harp...When I blow another reed plate on a C or A key I might pick one up.

One brand we dont get here are Bushman, their Delta Frost harmonicas are renowned for a dirty bluesy tone. Aint ever seen one, let alone played one but Seydel and Hohner are leading the field here.

Oh yeah Lee Oskars aint bad for the price....perfect gigging harp for emergency buit then I wouldn't know as I don't play gigs
