New Camera...

Bought a new digital camera yesterday.  Since I'm technically challenged it needed to be a point and shoot.  I have a Canon Elph SD550 which I love but I wanted another small one with more of a telephoto lens.  I finally decided on a Nikon Coolpix P-80, 10.1 megapixel with an 18x optical zoom lens (27mm-486mm).

Took a couple of pictures of my best buddy today and I think I'm going to like it.

Beautiful pictures!
Is the camera expensive?? I still haven't bought one, and I'm still considering suggestions!
Thanks for sharing! Great dog BTW!

Nice picture of Mr. Slaver chops and nice choice of camera.  Brenda has the P5100 and she's very pleased with it.

I would definitely recommend the Canon ELPH series.  They're about the size of a deck of cards, easily carried and very user friendly.  You can't beat this camera if you're taking photos of family and friends or at gatherings.  It's very simple to use and takes great photos.

My Canon is the ELPH SD550, which they no longer make, has a 3x optical zoom.  The current ELPH that would be equivalent is the SD890 IS.  The new SD890 IS has a 5x optical zoom and an image stabilizer which is a great feature.  It retails for $349.99 and you can usually find the Canon cameras on sale at Best Buy if you watch their ads.  Here's the web site so you can compare the models.

I love my Canon ELPH for general use and vacations and the main reason for purchasing the Nikon P-80 was the 18x optical zoom lens.  I'll use the Nikon for more distance photos or getting closer without disturbing the subject.  The P-80 retails for $399.99 and it was on sale for $369.  I also used a 10% Best Buy coupon which brought it down another $37.

Whatever you choose, make sure it has a viewfinder as well as the LCD screen.  I almost always use the LCD screen when I can but if you are outside in the sunlight the LCD is useless and you have to rely on the viewfinder.

I'm glad you liked "Gunner".  He's a Boxer and since I'm retired we hang out a lot together.

Great shots John..

M,
Pam uses the Nikon S52.. http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your...tal-Camera/26105/COOLPIX-S52.html  I got her this one because it is so small it fits in her purse without taking up much space.  It even slips into a pocket pretty easily (unless you wear your jeans too tight).

The pictures rival my SLR.. (but that could be me   )
