Need good frosting recipe.I'm making cupcakes for a Halloween party, and I need to find a good white frosting. I have on hand: heavy cream, cream cheese, sour cream, sugar, powered sugar, eggs, milk, butter.
It needs to be somewhat stiff so it doesn't melt/drip off the cupcakes - little kids are involved, and less mess is best.
I'm googling, but if you have a fave, post it!

I'm no help, Caroline. I buy that nasty crap in the container - Duncan Hines or Pillsbury. It's full of fake fat. We just don't eat frosted stuff very often.
I'd just do a basic buttercream frosting, but add more powdered sugar to firm it up.

Argh!! Even my kids won't eat that stuff!
Yeah, you may be right - it won't be hot today.

Wonder about a meringue frosting? Some kids don't like it, though. And, it might not hold up well.

Nah - too much of a pain in the butt. I need something stiff to hold the gummy worms on top.
Hm. I may pay later for just typing that sentence...

If you weren't too worried about a mess, chocolate cookie crumbs make a good dirt topping over the frosting.... so the wormies have something to eat.

I like the way you think, Lisa!

Nothing wrong with a little frosting on the pumpkin.

I know, Leo - sometimes I'm just too lazy to word things differently.

With Bitsy and Bubba I do not think it matters much. They can get wound up over the smallest detail.....

I have a decent butter frosting recipe - I'll see if I can dig it up at some point.

Caroline, I always just made an easy 3 ingredient icing for stuff like that. Start with margarine or butter, add icing sugar til it's stiff...add a little milk or cream to make a smooth texture, then add enough extra icing sugar to stiffen it as much as you like. Sometimes I added a hint of peppermint flavouring just for fun.

Thanks guys - I ended up with a classic cream cheese frosting - cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. I overheard a mom say to someone - try these over here, the frosting is great!

We shall see how this chapter in our lives works out. Seems the wife at the ripe age of 47 has missed her monthly event. I am smiling and she is very upset. We know about all the high risk and most likely it is nothing, but the wife is in a state of panic. I am no help other than saying something like "a leaf blower ain't a bad way to clear the garage".

There's a lady I know (a friend of a friend) who is almost due. She is either 47 or 48 - I can't recall. She didn't realize she was pregnant until she went to the doctor for some other reason - and found out she was well into the 2nd trimester!
Hmmm...

I would show the wife your post but, I don't think that would put her in a better mood. Most likey nothing ado about nothing, but if..... I get a sober driver for nine months. The wife just spent a year going from a size 12 to a size six, and in a blink of an eye, I could be the cheese and the cheese cake. Again, much to do about nothing, but the worry on the wife is kind of funny. Hey, at me age....I still try to do my part. It was only a couple of months we went through the same event.

Caroline, I know a gal through my work who went through exactly that. She is in her late 40's, has two teenaged sons just finishing high school and her doc told her that they had to do further testing on the "large growth" that might be a concern. Turned out she was 7 months pregnant. Her husband had had the "snip" but hadn't bothered going for the follow up to make sure it had worked. Sure enough, after a MUCH later test, the sperm are alive and well and busy as anything!!! The baby is almost 6 months old and she still hasn't come to terms with her "new life."

Yikes, being pregnant in your late 40s is definitely a scary prospect. Especially with complications that can occur do to being older!!!
