Is Rolex leaving a void ?With the price of Rolex now starting at ~5,000USD and even higher in Europe from what I understand, are they leaving a void in the Sport Watch market.
Well-to-do sportsmen can always affored whatever is out there, but what about the sportsman beyond the TLimex Ironman category who wants a quality watch but can't/won't spend that kind of money ?
It looks like Rolex is content to abandon this market to the likes of Omega with their 1,000 to 4,000 dollar watches ..
Is that a good move ??

What i think is....... people will always want a Rolex and Omega would die for Rolex's percieved or otherwise desire for one

At my AD they do a three year interest free option for payment. That makes it more affordable for many people. 
It's also simple economics, the law of supply and demand. If there's a demand for Rolex watches then the factory will supply them at the right price.

Abandon the $1,000-$4,000 sport model market? What about this price range for any of their watches? 
When you consider the amount and variety of Air Kings, DJ's, DD's, Pearlmasters, Special Editions and then factor in the sizes (24mm, 26mm, 29mm, 31mm, 34mm, 36mm, 39mm) I wonder what percentage are sport models compared to the total production. :(
Rolex has always considered themselves a quality watch and a notch above their competition. They certainly have the capability to enter the $1,000-$4,000 market and they may be deliberately avoiding this area.
Good move on their part? I don't know but their past performance over the years seems to indicate a lack of interest in this area whether it be sport model or other.

Rolex have always been the masters of marketing.
They also appear to be the masters of secrecy as well :-)
