I haven't introduced myselfI realise now that I've barged in here without properly introducing myself. I will do so now.
I was born in 1960 as the first son of two. My parents are from a quite humble blue-collar background and had to endure the very hard times of WWII. This has placed a large burden on our upbringing. Our life was frugal, we had to know our place and any sign of extravagance was frowned upon.
I finished high-school with little enthusiasm and volunteered for a UN peace-keeping mission in Lebanon in 1979. After returning I thought about the meaning of life for two months before finding a job. Over 29 (!) years later I'm still with the same company after changing jobs for three times. With a fourth time on the horizon.
My entrance into the WWW world of Rolex was ca. 10 years ago. I then became one of the very first members of the now long forgotten original TURF forum ran by a guy named Kayes from Penang.
Rolex is both a world famous brand as it is an underdog among its peers. For that reason my heart is always with Rolex. I'm aware of the fact that Rolex is the result of top class marketing and with 1,000,000 plus watches produced every year can only be considered as mass production. So be it.
Both Anne and myself have been very ill (Anne has recovered from a severe case of breast cancer) and that has changed our view on life quite a bit. Live now, not later is our motto.
This means that I have other priorities in life than most of my colleagues. We like to travel a lot and that takes priority over the things you are supposed to do in ones middle class life
I collect US flight jackets from the 1938-1959 era but the ones I own are replicas because originals are way too expensive. Apart from that hobby I'm an incurable nostalgic and have thus gathered a lot of books, DVDs and other material about to 60's and 70's.
I'm nearing the half century now and I feel better than ever. I don't have to prove anything anymore, have seen most of it and just try to go with the flow. Life is still great!

As you know I see life through irony and humour. Who would have thought an upstanding and educated man like you would have something in common with a lowly plattelander like me.

Thanks! It is easy to open up here. And at my age (cough) you have little to lose. I feel great, relaxed and better then 20 years ago. Nothing to prove anymore, seen it, done it. Anne's the same, life and family first, what brand of washing-up liquid second

You know Frans, I don't think I've ever seen a photo of you. I've always just thought of the Simpsons caricture that you used to have on another forum as your image! LOL Should we turn this into an introduction thread?
