"[...] In 1997, the Comex (Compagnie maritime d'expertise) company conducted an experiment during which the conditions of a Mount Everest climb were simualted virtually. In Operation Everest III (Comex '97), eight volunteers were decompressed in a hypobaric chamber, with a decompression profile simulating the conditions that prevail during a climb of Mount Everest, to the altitude of 8,846 meters.
Various scientific experiments were carried outduring the experiment, to assess cardiac and other bodily functions under laboratory conditions.
The present watch was worn by one of the participants in this experiment."

It's interesting that COMEX has made a few experiments with presentation watches..
I think that it is a whole new genre from the COMEX watches that were produced by Rolex specifically for COMEX...
But with only 8 in the world, along with the 8 GMT's, they would certainly be rare for the collector who specializes in that area............

Looks like these Comex watches are popping up all over the place. Sometimes I wonder if they do it to benefit from the rarity value.

I was browsing the Antiquorum catalog from the 2008 Rolex auction, and was surprised by the (seemingly) low prices of the Comex watches. Low price is relative (meaning less than $75K) when you see what some of the Comex pieces have sold for. Also, I have no idea what the watches sold for as I all I could see was the est. price ranges.
Anyway, lots of cool history there.
