Books

On the radio tonight they were talking about libraries and the boost in public reading happening right now in the UK.

Here's something interesting I thought....

I see loads of posts where people say what book they are currently reading and they are either completely unknown to me or sound absolutely fascinating.

We could do either one or two things.

1.
How about the next paperback book you read, you nominate one member and send it to them.

We could have books flying around left right and centre. The perfect thing being that if you're good forum friends with somebody, you'll pretty much know what interests them yet they may never have thought about buying that specific book.

2.
We could have a book club thread where we set a book that nobody has read and we give members say two weeks to read it and then express their opinions.

What do you guys think?

I like! Let me think about both options.

looking forward to having some of Bubba's reading material, not sure it would pass customs
uncle aj

I tend to keep my books to read again, trouble is I never do.

Most of mine are of a technical nature, you know, tab a goes into slot b.

I am reading Vince Flynn's new book Pursuit of Honor.  I noticed on the back cover he is now wearing a PAM.  He used to wear an Explorer II.

I got a new book yesterday. Took it to work and one of the many people who exchange books to read in our dept begged for it and so she's reading it before me. I stumbled across the book in a Ronald McDonald Family room at our local hospital. It looked good so I bought it online (used, the way I order all my books). A few of the gals at work opened it to check it out, and then I was the butt of jokes and teasing all day in the department because there is apparently LOTS of really bad language and GRAPHIC sex stuff in it.

It's on Oprah's list. WTF???
East Bay Rider

I started a thread on the other forum titled "Book Club". It was supposed to be a place to review and recommend.
Sadly it was never that popular. Not controvertial enough I'm guessing. Lol

Join the club.  Almost all my threads died, unless I was poking fun at ole' SlimJim76.

Jim, I like the idea of a book club where we each read the same book and then discuss it. Bill, I believe this will work on Adrian's forum because we have all the best members here!!!

Only one who can read my books, is Frans and I doubt he'll like my style...

That's 'cause you're usually hanging by them. They're a slow, agonizing death.

I'd go for a book club thread. Jim, Bill - it's a good idea! Joe, is that book you're reading available at the library? Maybe it could be our first, if folks think it's a good idea.

Then again, I'm sorta grabbing the bull by the horns here.

I got a couple of the books on her list over the years. I would get all excited, and then - they stunk! And to top it off, I spent $$ on them.

Now I steer clear from her stuff, unless I hear it acclaimed elsewhere. Part of the problem is that her picks fly to the top of the bestseller list simply 'cuz she endorses them.
Carolina

Bwahaha - that book Joe's reading has a waiting list at our library. I'm #260!!

Just as long as you don't say "grabbing" while on a deck!!!

Shipping costs to some points of the world can cost more than a new book.......

I'm always interested in what other prople are reading, but my reading seems to go in spurts.........  Like, I'll read two or three books in a row, then won't pick one up for another 6 months.........

I usually read work/management books. I like to try to understand the un-understandable

Just a suggestion as Larry say shipping costs can be very high.

I read this ages ago and would not mind reading again. Poignant story of Nigel Slaters early years. Cheap on Amazon UK & USA if bought secondhand.

What do you think?

That's exactly how I read Larry. The one I'm currently reading, I started in August. I've read about 40 pages. My friends can't fathom how I could start that book and then put it down.
Jimbits76

Nah gotta eat more books.

I'm generally always reading. If I get into a novel it's usually finished within five days (a smaller paperback perhaps 3 nights).

If I do put a book down and don't return to it within a few weeks or so, the book is dead, I will never return to it. Life's too short to read bad or incomprehensible books!

So what book are we deciding to read and discuss???
