Black-crowned finch-larkThese are also known as black-crowned sparrow-lark, depending on which guide book you use. The two specimens shown are females, the male has the black crown. They were about all that was around yesterday but as it was 47 deg C, I think everything else was hiding in the shade.

He blends in with the surroundings very well. Not what I would call a pretty bird though. The first one is really sharp. Did you use the old pour out the 5 gallon container of water and watch them come trick? lol.

No need for the water as they are in the water margins of a lake that's been formed by the waste water from an airport. They are hard to spot but they can usually be found in one particular place where they like to drink.
