A quiet weekend for me

I was not able to go to any of my usual haunts this weekend (Thurs / Fri) so I had a drive up the coast then off to a lake near the airport.  On the way we passed a group of 50+ Caspian terns.  I'd never seem so many together in one place.  As I tried to get closer, a security police vehicle appeared so I thought it prudent to move off.  They get very touchy when they see big lenses and always think you are spying.

Later on, when we got to the lake there was not much around, one collared praticole, a few Kentish plovers, black-winged stilts and a raptor hiding in the reeds.  It was on Brenda's side of the car so I asked her to open the window so I could get a shot.  Unfortunately the noise spooked it and all I got was it's rear.  At first I thought it was carrying prey but when I put it on the computer, I noticed it had been tethered and managed to escape.  I'm not sure what it is, harrier or kite maybe so I've sent the picture to a few experts.

If I showed you..........well you know.

PS
The bird turned out to be a marsh harrier.

That's one thing I haven't had to contend with so far. Several people have assumed I'm a professional just because of the lens but not a spy. They wouldn't ask if they saw my shots, lol.  When I start getting all cammo'd up and really skulking around and hiding in a blind maybe then.

Too bad about the Harrier. Now that you know where he is located maybe you can catch him. It's still a beautiful bird even from that angle.

They are creatures of habit so maybe he'll be there next Friday.
