Great shots...
Love that second one........great capture....
Do you motor drive and let the birds fly into the frame, ... or is it like me...after combing through a couple of hundred shots, a couple of them are pretty darn good..

With the D3, I can shoot at 9 frames per second. Usually I have a quick burst of two or three shots. I get the bird in the viewfinder and follow it as best I can. The stilts are fairly easy as they are not very fast flyers.

Great job Adrian. Getting a good in flight shot is tough. I was out today trying to get some of the local herons and having the zoom was a big help. I'd imagine the 500mm would make it even tougher although when you nail it the results exceed the zoom.

Yes it is a bit tough with a 500, less angle of view etc. and sometimes it's too big a lens for the subject. Usually I'd use a 300mm but it's still away in the UK. A workmate who has just gone home will be bringing it back.
