A couple of flirting CardinalsI wasn't having much luck today until these two were kind enough to come along.

I think you are on a winner with that lens and what a smashing pair of birds.

Another shot of the female Cardinal. Not the best light.
Caught a glimpse of this Tricoloured Blackbird that didn't stick around for long so not the best detail.
As I was leaving and walking along the trail this Osprey came into a clearing just long enough for me to get two shots of him. It's my first raptor so I was pleased to get it.

You certainly get some nice birds over there and lovely blue skies. Here, it's dull and snowing. I've attached a picture of my house I just took minutes ago, hand held at ISO 6400. I think I'm going to like this camera. I changed it to black and white as the original was too orange due to the street lights.

Thanks Larry. No, I don't have an extender yet. I'll probably get the 1.4 but I've heard the 100-400 doesn't work too well with them. Although, I've also heard the newer 100-400's are sharper than than the earlier models so I would like to see for myself. I did do some cropping though.
Adrian, you must really have wanted to try out that D3 to get out there in that. lol. Can't wait to see what you can do with it. That's some serious ISO. Looks like it handled it great!
I was out and about again today and ran across few more of our feathered friends. A Mallard enjoying our Spring like weather today.
A Great Blue Heron.
I just like the lighting of this one.
And just practicing my bird in flight skills. I didn't realize how many Gulls there are until I really started keeping an eye out for birds. They are everywhere.

You should join Birdforum.net and upload your pictures to the American gallery.

I'll check them out, thanks. For some reason the Gull and the head of the Heron are a little softer once I transfer them to Photobucket and then post them here. I need to figure that out because they look better than on here. The others seem to be on the mark though. I have just been shooting jpeg and doing some cropping and slight sharpening and for some reason sometimes the sharpening doesn't seem to transfer.

That happens with me, the image I produce in Photoshop does not seem to transfer to the web sites. Quite often on web sites I can see Jpeg artifacts where there are none in Photoshop.
