Canon G11 or S90?

This camera is now on sale in the UK and a few videos of first impressions are appearing. Hopefully I'll get my hands on one soon.

Canon S90

Oh I'm very tempted, the smaller size may be a big factor in my final decision. I want something I can carry around and quickly use as photography here is still a touchy subject. All I need is a 1024 x 768 image at 300 dpi for submission to our monthly camera club competition.

I've changed the title of the topic as it's now a debate on which to buy.

I can certainly see the benefits of the smaller size.. Those of us who shoot with SLR's are used to a certain quality and may see the G11 approaching that...... but then, it's almost the same as carrying around the SLR as the G11 just won't fit in a pocket..

The S90 seems to have some pretty good specs in a remarkably small size..

Price differences are about a wash... so, marginally less capability trade-off for a great size..

I notice the S90 is also capable of RAW, so that could sway me

That seems to be a coming trend though.. Even the latest crop of SLR's are coming with live view....

Pams Nikon P&S does not have a viewfinder and I usually slap it up to my face first, then have to stick it out in front of me like everybody else does now-days..

I think that with live-view, you almost have to rely on the autofocus, so it's important that the camera have some capability in spot focusing and metering.

Well it's almost decision time and I think I'll go with the G11. It's been a difficult choice but I think the better build quality, slightly better image quality, longer optical zoom and longer exposure settings for night work have tipped the balance. My friend goes back to the UK on Wednesday for two weeks and will bring me one back.

Call me Mr. Indecisive but I opted to wait until I can get my hands on one of these babies to decide which I like the feel of most. So until they come into the stores here or until I go home, the final decision is awaited.

........ I mean, of couse, one that doesn't cost more than the camera..
