Love the Submariner!  My brother has a 14060M.  I wrote a story about it on another forum.  Here's part of that story:

"I've been reading all these posts about folks who have a "safe queen" or worry about scratches, putting tape on the clasp, or this or that, and yet, most of us love Rolex because they are premium timepieces that are known for durability as well as beauty, and we extoll the virtues of their ruggedness. This thought process took me to my brother.

My brother is 28 years old and a true outdoorsman. He wears a tie about once a year (job interview or wedding). He got his college degree 4 years ago in recreation (final exam question: "what is the proper angle of 'full recline' in a lounge chair?" - not really, but I always joked with him about that). His jobs have always been outdoors (trail repair, soil work, construction, ski resort maintenance, park service), he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, sailing, fly fishing, hunting, and his favorite passion, extreme off-roading/rock-crawling in his Jeep CJ-7.

My brother's watch? A Rolex non-date Submariner (14060M). Our parents gave it to him for his college graduation. Before that he wore an LL Bean watch (similar in appearance to a Hamilton Khaki), from 1991 to 2004 and it was beat to hell. If he had not gotten the Rolex, he would have worn it until it was unrepairable. He always loved the Rolex Submariner for its looks, but mostly its reputation of durability. However, he's very frugal (except when it comes to his Jeep!) and would never pay for such a watch. He always told me he wished he had one, but would never spend the money for it. He didn't like the date function because it cost more, and may make the watch less durable! So imagine his surprise when he got one for graduation (yes, I helped my parents in their choice and purchase). It hasn't left his wrist since, except when he's waterskiing (when it goes on my other wrist!). He wears it chainsawing, hammering, working on cars, hunting, fishing, EVERYWHERE. It was on his wrist when my dad rolled the Jeep on the Rubicon last year. And it always looks good on him.

He's a 1-watch man and has said he never needs another watch after getting his Rolex. When I saw him last summer, I offered to wash his watch. It was filthy, but came out shining like almost new! He consistently says how amazing it is that his watch looks so good after 4.5 years of near daily use and abuse. Assuming it continues to last as he expects it to, perhaps in another 20 or 30 years, he will send an unsolicited letter to Rolex. If it breaks, beyond repair or is lost, I will personally buy him another 14060, (or 16610 or SD, if he preferred), because of how much he enjoys the watch and how he truly uses it for its purpose of a 'tool watch.'"

Here's a photo of it, after  over 6 years of daily wear and tear:

Great story David about your brother and his Sub ND. I too own one and love it but it doesn't get a lot of wrist time due to my wearing my Pepsi for everyday use!!!

I regret getting rid of my ND Sub more than any other watch I've sold.

Your brother is using the watch like it should be used....beat the snot out of it and get it serviced every 5 or 6 years.  I'm aspiring to follow his example!
